FAQ
-
Can I use it as a throwing knife? If it wasn't designed as a throwing knife, I don't suggest using it that way. It's not impossible, but throwing knives are built to be balanced, near precision weighted and aerodynamic, so your bowie knife will not work the way you'd like it to as a throwing knife.
-
Can I have my knife/sheath personalized? We offer a few different possible ways to personalize. Acid etching (best for names, designs, but works best on larger knives) Leather tooling (great for designs, works best on larger sheaths) Hot Chiseling (great for runes and initials) Sheath and handle laser etching coming soon
-
How should I sharpen my knife?A stone around 300 grit is suggested, but there are many methods and sharpening tools on the market. Try a few different sharpeners and see what best suits your needs.
-
How do I keep my blade from rusting? After heavy usage (skinning, butchering, camping, cooking, etc) take some 000 or 0000 steel wool over the blade, lightly apply an oil to it (try a vegetable oil if you're using it for food prep), make sure the sheath is dry and free of debris and then place it back inside.
-
My brass/copper is looking dull, can I shine it up?"000 or 0000 steel wool will return the brass or copper to a bright glow, make sure to use a single direction when you apply it.
-
My handle is looking dirty, can I clean it?"Take a very lightly dampened paper towel and rub away any dirt or grime, now you have 2 options. Before either, lightly rub down the handle with 000 or 0000 steel wool and you can then apply a light coat of Tru Oil from Birchwood Casey or you can buff in beeswax or a beeswax mixture like DH Knifeworks Handle & Leather Finish
-
How do I take care of my sheath? There are many ways to preserve and maintain your sheath. I suggest using DH Knifeworks Handle & Leather Finish, but I firmly believe in Neatsfoot oil as well.
